Cute, apparently, but no SCUBA actress

Photo by Dan Michalski'Thanks to all the readers who were cheering me on during my first audition. I was informed yesterday, that I didn't get the part......but the receptionist said that my head shot was beautiful (that's an 8x10 photo for those of you with your mind in the gutter)and she said I had great eyebrows (thank you my beautiful boyfriend for lending me your photo skills and thank you to Twyla for crafting such great brows). So I've got that going for me!

I have to say that the audition itself was pretty uneventful. I had about 5 minutes placed in front of a camera while speaking to one of the directors. Not much to it. Apparently the project is to create a public announcement about Texas' great outdoors. Would have been a fun way to see a little more of this place, but oh well.

Scuba diver attacked by mako shark

Yesterday a diver was attacked by a mako shark near Muttonbird Islands in New Zealand. Alistair Kerr, 44 was diving with a friend when the shark, estimated 2.5 meters long, attacked.

Mako's grow up to 4 meters and can jump to heights of 10m. They are known to chase their prey at 50km/h.

Auditioning all in the name of SCUBA

It's been busy. I just completed my Journey into Cuba show here in Dallas at Little Havana. Huge endeavor for my first solo photo show, but thankfully a successful one. I have been working on my Dive Master certification in between the printing, framing and matting. I promise to blog about that soon....but today I head out for an interesting task....my first audition for a part in a film or something. A friend of mine told me about this guy producing a film called Wild Texas Pt. 2....and there are apparently several SCUBA scenes.....cool! So this is how much of a scuba geek I am....I am auditioning for a non-speaking part all to be below the surface! I am not very hopeful, I hear that model types who are 50-80 pounds lighter than me are auditioning. I am just a natural chic...so if they want scuba froo froo then I guess I am out.....

......but maybe they will need a safety diver??? I am rescue certified now.

Aquatic living

REUTERS/Progetto AbissiTheir new apartment offers a roofless living room with plastic furniture and black netting over their beds to keep them from floating away.

In order to gauge the effect on the human body, Stania Mensa and Stefano Barbaresi from Italy completed their first day in their underwater apartment. While the couple won't surface for 10 days, they will be able to enter a special dry chamber every five hours to tend to some physical needs.

If they surface as planned on September 17, the couple will more than double a U.S. record of living underwater.

Surfer fights off Great White

OK OK! I will stop focusing on Australia aquatic news, but this was a pretty cool story that I found via Divester.

Enjoying Father's Day with his children and a surfing friend around Eyre Peninsula, Jake Heron's surf time was cut short 10 meters from shore when a 4 meter Great White attacked him. The shark reportedly knocked Heron off and then bit his surf board before pulling Heron under. The 40-year-old surfer fought the shark by punching it in its gills. Moments later a large wave washed Heron away from the shark and up on the rocky shore.

The shark bit through the crayfisherman's wetsuit and left him with damage to his right arm and thigh.

While fighting off the shark helped, Heron was pretty lucky for nature to intervene. Nice combination when your will to live is accepted by mother nature.

Pretty incredible.

Anti-shark pulse kit in demand

Since the recent two attacks in Australia, SeaChange Technology, producer of Shark Shield, has received multiple calls from all states in Australia.

This electronic device emits a pulse to repel sharks at close range. Scuba divers in state government departments, including police and staff are required to use the anti-shark pulse kit.

According to The Australian article on line, Adelaide University tried out the Shark Shield, but left it up to their empolyees when deciding whether to use it or not.
